Panasonic BD60 and the white snake!

After some serious thinking, I decided to sold off my PS3 and upgrade it to a dedicated Blu Ray player, as I rarely play games on it. I only played 3 games on it before, which are GTA4, GT5 and Dragonball Z burst limit. The total game time on it is less than 50 hours after I bought it since last December.

After I manage to find a buyer for my PS3, I decided to get my hand on the Panasonic BD60 (RM1200) after some good review I read from LYN (lowyat.net).

Before unbox:

Everything inside the box (exclude the manual and warranty card):

My new setup will be.....

And finally I get this shown on my Onkyo805!!!! And mind you, the word of DTS-HD MSTR is not only for show, it's the real thing! I tested it with my favourite movie for testing - Dragon Tiger Gate, and the AQ of it is really great compare to my old PS3.

The improvement in terms of AQ is due to the fact that the BD60 does not decode the audio file (DTS HD- Master Audio) from the blu ray disc itself, but instead it bitstream it to my Onkyo 805 and let it do the job. While for the PS3, it decodes the audio file itself and then only sent it using PCM to the Onkyo 805.

Although the improvement of AQ is quite significant, I however does not notice any difference in terms of PQ like many others had notice. This is partly due to I haven't calibrate the BD60 yet after I get it, and I am still waiting for the seller to sent me the settings.

The load time of the BD60 is slower than the PS3, but it's still acceptable under my standards.

Oh, and besides the BD60, I also get myself the so called white snake, the Supra Lorad 2.5 power cord (RM180 for 1m length) after reading all the racuns from LYN.

I replaced my Onkyo805 power cable with the white snake instead of other as the amplifier is the heart of the whole home theater system. After I plug it in and tested with some movies from my PC, I can only notice that the noise of the sound is lesser. Guess I don't have god-ears and god-eyes like others audiophile. :(

my suggestion:

In my opinion, watching from a bed isn't the best experience, chuck your bed away and replace it with a set of super comfy sofa with arm rest, leg rest and body rest. Then you can enjoy the system better.

LOL. For me, watching on bed is ok, but square room, room without acoustic treatment and so many other stuff is bad :p

for that white snake, it is the poor brass/nickel plated IEC connector preventing the sound, even worse than original plug. I have one too, but after changing to a better IEC (gold-plated), will get excellent clarity.
