Review: 蘭姐清蒸非洲鱼 (Kedai Makanan Lan Jie)

Tilapia (非洲鱼) is considered as a cheap fish to many people as it's a fresh water fish, and if it's not handled properly when cooked, it will have dirt taste when eat. However, I am a tilapia lover, and when I stayed in Rawang, I was amazed that so many restaurant are seems to be specialized in "steamed tilapia", and so one fine day I just simply choose one restaurant and enter, which turn out to be the best "steamed tilapia" that I had eaten before!

The restaurant name is 蘭姐清蒸非洲鱼 (Kedai Makanan Lan Jie).



Normally when I had my dinner at this restaurant, I will go early (around 6pm), as if I went late, the crowd will be huge, and since the restaurant is quite small, it can't really accommodate that much people. This is especially true on Sunday, as the crowd started to gather as early as 6pm, and sometimes I need to stand and wait for more than 15minutes! I once overheard one of the waiting customers say they come as far from Kajang to Rawang (around 45minutes travel if no traffic) to eat, this explained to crowd I guess.

This restaurant is also famous for 'one person per fish', as the size of the fish they bought in are big enough for one person. Therefore, you can see if a table of five, you will see each person will have their own fish, which you almost can't saw it at other place. With this type of service, you don't need to worry that the favorite part of your fish are being snatched by the person who shares with you.

Besides, this shop also only served one type of steamed fish, with the choice of either normal spicy and extra spicy. I always go for extra spicy though. Other than "steamed tilapia", they only have a few more other dishes to choose from which are not worth to mentioned.

My rating "Extra Spicy Steamed Tilapia" : 9.5/10 (It should get a 10/10 but due to the fact that other food at the restaurant is bad, I won't give it a full score)

Look at the ingredients available, the shop are not stingy in giving it. Since tilapia is a fresh water fish, the fish is always fresh! The sauce is really really nice, and it really suits my taste well. Spicy enough, sweet enough, everything is perfect!

Overall, this is a great place to eat if you love tilapia. It's really nice, and it's the only thing that gives me great memory when I stay at Rawang. If not because this shop is quite far from Petaling Jaya, I will go and eat it every time I went down to Petaling Jaya.

Rm19.50 for 1 person (the fish I order usually is extra large which is good enough for 2 person)


How to go there:
There are a whole stretch of shop lots at the road heading to KL. The restaurant is on your left side if you came from Rawang town, and heading towards KL. If you saw KFC(on your left too) means you already pass by the restaurant, and have to turn back.
